Nan Ruark

June 10, 1933 — June 26, 2023

Elizabeth Ann "Nan" (Liechty) Ruark, 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Monday, June 26, 2023.

Nan was born on Saturday, June 10, 1933, to the late Clarence Edward and Mable Elizabeth (Karstedt) Liechty in Monon, Indiana. Nan was a graduate of Southport High School and proud alumni. She then attended and graduated Indiana Central College with a Bachelor of Arts and was a member of the Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity. This institution is known today as the University of Indianapolis.

After graduating she went to work for Perry Township Jr. High School. Following a few years of teaching, Nan had a short stint as a Flight Attendant and Flight Service Director in Peoria, Illinois.

Nan went back to school to get her master’s degree in English from Indiana University. After completing her degree, Nan taught English at Decatur High School in Indianapolis. Later she taught photography and then became head of the Media Department. She also was also a freelance photographer.

She had other careers including modeling after college and later in life became an entrepreneur along with her husband, Gerald. They started Alpha Records and hosted many events and shows at hotels, selling collector vinyl records.

Nan is survived by her sisters, Phyllis J. Dumm, Joyce Frink Chandler, and Diane Rouch (Roger). She is also survived by her bonus family, Sigi, Josephina, Alma, David, Elsa, and Arly Jimenez; and neighbors Peter Gomez and Nick Burrell; also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and her Alpha Records Music family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Ruark; parents, Clarence and Mable Liechty; brother, Warren Liechty and brothers-in- laws, Donald Frink and Verne Chandler.

She will be remembered for being a great steward to the community, always ready to give of her time, talent and treasure. She will be truly missed.

Visitation is Thursday, June 29, 2023 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.

Funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm.
