Myrtle Joann Russell

Myrtle Joann ‘Jo’ Workman Russell, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2026. She was born on February 27, 1940 to Horrie and Dorothy Foist Workman.

At a young age, she moved to Newport, Indiana, where she spent most of her childhood. As a teenager she moved back to Indianapolis, where she met and married Walter Charles Chandler. They had six children together. 

In 1975, she met Glenn Russell. They were married in 1976, and had 9 children together.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Horrie and Dorothy Workman; her son, Robert ‘Bob’ Chandler; and her four brothers, Richard, Donald, Ronald and Herman. 

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Wayne Russell; children, Earl (Lillie) Chandler, Walter Chandler, Donna (Wayne) Huffman, Michael (Amy) Chandler, Marilyn (Bob) Brzozowski; and step daughters, Barbara (Dallas) Halcomb, Rhonda (Dan) Halcomb and Sandra (Andy) Stapp. 

Jo and Glenn have 32 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, along with many niece, nephews and other family members that will cherish her memory. 

Her favorite things were spending time at family gatherings, roller skating, bowling, camping, square dancing and riding motorcycles, playing softball, playing card and board games. She also enjoyed attending grandkids sporting events, as well as her flowers and yard work. 

Jo was also a proud firefighter and drove the ambulance for the Eel River Township. She was also a member of the North Salem Christian Church.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 pm with a short service at 2 pm, on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at North Salem Christian Church. Everyone is welcome to attend.
