The Morris Alvan Hensley (September 29, 1937 – August 19, 2026)

Passed away quietly on August 19, 2026 after a brief illness.

Born in Fortville, Indiana to Carl L. Hensley & Mary Kathryn (Morris) Thieme.

Morris Hensley grew up & lived along Fall Creek outside of Fortville most of his life and graduated in 1955 from Fortville High School with his favorite classmates who he often talked with. Morris served in the US Navy Reserves as a Seabee and gained lifelong friends.

After meeting his future wife Barbara (Taylor) on a blind date – they soon got married (June 3, 1961) and after a few years moved onto the property where Morris had grown up, and raised their two daughters, Christine & April.

Morris was a well driller by trade and would often point out all of the wells he drilled (although there was nearly nothing that Morris couldn’t do) and for many years helped people all across the state to get water to their homes. Morris was always willing to help anyone who needed it.

Eventually he worked with Layne Northern Well Drilling and then along the way, began working with the City of Carmel’s Water Department as their Superintendent, where he retired after many years of service.

Everyone who knows Morris, knows he loves well-drilling, water, animals (especially his cats) and talking about all of those things! He enjoyed sharing his love of witching/dowsing with anyone who would listen. He could tell you about arrowheads & artifacts he’d found across the miles, and was known to load them up and take them with him to share at doctor’s appointments. He loved mushroom hunting. He was very amicable and smart and really understood so much of the world around him. He loved to stay in touch. He really didn’t know a stranger!

Morris is survived by his wife, Barbara (Taylor) who he celebrated their 65 years of marriage in June and Daughters Christine (Jack) Laudig – Pendleton; April – Fishers and Granddaughter Amelia Laudig– Pendleton.

He is preceded in death by his father Carl L. Hensley, mother Mary Kathryn (Morris) Thieme, infant sister Katherine Jane Hensley and brother Marion C. Hensley.
