Miriam Mathews

Miriam (Friesen) Mathews, 97, of Plainfield, IN passed away on January 21, 2026.

Miriam was born on February 10, 1928 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to John and Emma Friesen. One of seven children, she attended Emmaus Bible School and Briercrest Bible Institute. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and student of the Bible. Along with her husband, Charles, who preceded her in death, Miriam served in churches throughout the Midwest, playing piano, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Donna) Mathews of Xenia, OH and Tim (Kathy) Mathews of Plainfield, IN; former daughter-in-law, Sharon Mathews of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, Karin, Jon, Joel, Corey, Grace and Abby; two great grandchildren, Julian and Emery; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Viewing will be at Burge Terrace Baptist Church, 9345 Brookville Road, Indianapolis, on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., with her funeral service to follow. Miriam will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery on E. Washington Street.
