Mildred “Jean” Crafton, 94, passed away on December 27, 2024, in Greenfield, IN. Jean was born on September 2, 1930 in Bloomington, IN to George Carpenter and Tressie Carpenter. Jean graduated from Manilla School in May 1948. She married Melvin Pascal Brown, on June 10, 1950. She was a stay-at- home mom, who did babysitting and ironing for others. Once her children, Cheryl Ann Brown, Donald Lee Brown, Linda Kay Brown, and George Allen Brown were in school she went to work at the Marion County Home. She then worked at and retired from Ice Miller LLP, located in Indianapolis, Indiana as a Office Assistant.

After being divorced 13 years, she met and married Gene Crafton in November 1985. Gene and Jean were members of the Brookville Community Church in New Palestine, Indiana and were known as the “Pair of Jeans”. They both loved to travel and had been on numerous cruises.

Jean is survived by her son, Donald Brown (Kay) of Camarillo, California; 2 step-grandsons, 5 great grandchildren and daughter, Linda (Dave) Colclazier of Greenfield, Indiana, 2 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Marcia (married to George) Brown and 1 granddaughter.

Jean is preceded in death by George Carpenter – father, Tressie Carpenter – mother, 2 sisters and 4 brothers, Melvin Brown – ex-husband, Cheryl Brown, daughter, George Brown, son, Tina Brown, granddaughter, Michael Brown, grandson and husband, Gene Crafton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Brookville Community Church (Gathering Room in front of the church) in New Palestine, IN on Saturday, January 4, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Hubert will officiate.
