Michael “Mike” David Thompson, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 7, 2025. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of stories, laughter, and music that will never fade.

Mike was happiest on a Harley with classic rock pouring from the speakers—especially the Beatles. He proudly called himself the “sixth Beatle,” and he had a habit of blasting every B-side he could find, insisting those were the true masterpieces. He also had a soft spot for wonderfully terrible B-rated horror movies and took great joy in making his family sit through them.

He enjoyed softball and darts over the years, but one of the most meaningful achievements of his life was his 27 years of sobriety. Through Alcoholics Anonymous, Mike rebuilt his life and dedicated himself to helping others do the same. For nearly two decades, he was deeply active in the program, sponsoring several people and mentoring countless others. He firmly believed, “the program works if you work the program,” and he lived each day guided by the Serenity Prayer.

In 1971, Mike was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. The war ended before he shipped out, but he served proudly stateside in clerical roles. His service remained an important and honored part of who he was.

Above all, Mike loved his family. He never met a stranger, never made an enemy, and had a natural gift for making people feel welcome. His humor, warmth, and easygoing spirit created a presence that will be deeply missed and never replaced.

Mike is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children Stephanie, Ray, Allison, his stepchildren Emily and Austin; his son-in-law Miles; and his daughter-in-law Beth. He is also survived by his sister Delores; his niece Trisha; and his nephew Chance. His grandchildren include Ryan, Stephen, Logan, Dalton, Austin, Abigail Rose, Emma Lynn, Mikey, Jennifer, Noah David, and Connor, and his great-grandchildren include Ayden, with another expected in June to Logan and Emily.

He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
