Listen to Obituary

Michael Leroy Hullinger, 68, who recently moved from Marion to Hartford City, Indiana, died suddenly on Friday, May 22, after several days in the Cardiac Care Unit at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Michael was born on January 16, 1958, the first child to his parents Mildred and Otto “Bud” Hullinger, in Marion, Indiana. He was a beautiful baby and a happy toddler with the most joyous, radiant smile. Mike spent most of his life in Marion where he met his life partner of over 20 years, Carla Baldinger, who survives him, as does his loyal canine companion, Misty. Both miss him terribly. Mike is also survived by his brother Mark Hullinger (Kim), sister, Theresa Hullinger, aunts, Kathleen Little (Don) and Mrs. Dorothy Orr, uncle Larry Hullinger (Jenny), nephew Nathan Miller and many, many cousins and extended family.

Mike was a hard worker throughout his life, including his time at General Tire, Marion, and most recently at Atlas Foundry, Marion, where he spent most of his working years until a disability forced him into early retirement in 2021. Mike enjoyed many hobbies and passions throughout his lifetime including camping and building campfires, participating in local compound bow competitions winning several awards, and especially having fun at the casinos. In addition to working on his own vehicles, he was a mechanically gifted person who had a knack for fixing things. When he was young, he would build model warships, adding tiny figures and other elements, then carefully and creatively scorching the finished models to better represent realistic battle scenes. Throughout his life, his artistic gifts were also expressed by painting landscapes and outdoor scenes.

As an adult, one of his greatest passions was his motorcycle. He enjoyed riding whenever he could: around town, in the country and on long adventurous trips to other states and distant destinations. As he reached the end of his final trip to the great beyond, we hope Mike was welcomed with love, joy, peace and adventures that will fill his heart & soul forever. Until we meet again, Mike, we’ll hold you in our hearts.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Arlene Hullinger & Otto “Bud” Leroy Hullinger, his maternal and paternal grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and also several cousins.

No services will take place. Cremation is being handled by Indiana Funeral Care West.
