Michael Joseph Helfrich

Mar 27, 1963 — Jul 2, 2026

Indianapolis

Michael Joseph Helfrich, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on July 2, 2026, in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 63, with his family by his side.

Mike was born on March 27, 1963, in Indianapolis. He lived his entire life in Indianapolis and graduated from Warren Central High School in 1981. He spent much of his professional life with International Harvester before retiring. In the following years, Mike kept himself busy with other jobs and eventually found his place at Formica.

Mike found his greatest joy as a family man. His wife, Theresa, was his constant partner and source of strength, and together they built a home filled with laughter, love, and support. Mike was a proud and devoted father to Joe and Daniel, guiding them not only as a parent but also as a coach during their grade school years—a role he cherished and remembered fondly. In recent years, nothing delighted him more than being Papaw, and spending time with his granddaughters, Abby and Emma. Outside of family and work, Mike loved the outdoors, especially camping, hiking, and spending time on his motorcycle. Mike was an enthusiastic supporter of local sports teams, specifically the Colts and Pacers.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Theresa; his two sons, Joe (Sarah) and Daniel; his granddaughters Abby and Emma; his sister Ruth and brothers John (Karen) and Frank (Sherri), as well as numerous nieces and nephews whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mike’s life at Indiana Funeral Care East, 1307 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219. Visitation will be held on July 18, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s name to Friends of Indy Animals (Indiana Animal Care Services). All who knew and cared for Mike are welcome to join in honoring his memory.

Though his presence is gone, Mike’s legacy of love, devotion, and joyful living will forever endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
