Michael A. Bohr

Michael Allen Bohr, August 28, 1948-February 19, 2023.  Michael was in the first graduating class of Brebuf Preparatory School and a graduate in History of Xavier University.  As a scholar and participant in Gay life during times of open persecution and the AIDS Crisis, Michael new it was important to preserve the history of LGBTQ life in Indianapolis.  Starting with his own collection of more than 1,600 items and named in honor of Chris Gonzalez the founder of  Indiana Youth Group, Michael preserved and nurtured the collection for over twenty years.  The collection is now divided between the Indianapolis Public Library, IUPUI University Library, and The Spencer Pride CommUnity Center.   The collection contains many rare pieces of LGBTQ Indianapolis history that would have been lost had it not been for Michael’s dedication.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Allen Bohr  and Jean Willis Bohr, and sister Daina Maria Bohr.

He is survived by sisters, Susan (Susan) Bohr and Darsi Bohr, brothers Richard (Lynn) Bohr, Blake (Karen) Bohr, and Andrew  (Viicky) Bohr, and his aunt, Patsy Carroll.  And extended Family and friends.  He is missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to: Spencer Pride CommUnity Center in Spencer Indiana;  the Indiana Aids Fund; or the Indiana Youth Group.
