May Oakes

May Ritz Oakes, 94, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at Allisonville Meadows after a long illness.  She was born on December 30, 1928 to the late Theodore (Sr.) and Lula Ritz.  

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, brothers Theodore Jr. and David, and sister Violet. 

May grew up in Trinidad, Colorado, attended junior college and worked in clerical positions throughout her life including many years at Butler University.  She traveled extensively and was a supporter of animal causes and the arts.  She enjoyed gourmet cooking, sewing, crocheting, studying Russian language and literature, and spending time with her cats.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; William and Mary, Patricia and Dom, and Lisa and Chris; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four sisters.  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in May’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
