Mary Alice Segerson, 83, passed away on July 21, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by her children.
Mary was born on November 27, 1941, in Knox, Indiana, to the late George W. Folkers and Anna (Hansen) Folkers. One of seven siblings, she grew up in Knox and graduated from Knox High School in 1960. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ball State University in 1964.
Mary began her career as a teacher, working at Carmel Clay North Elementary and College Wood Elementary. In 1965, she married Michael Segerson, and together they raised five children in Indianapolis. In 1982, she joined the staff at St. Vincent Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 2006.
Nothing mattered more to Mary than her family. She was a kind, loving and generous soul with a quiet strength. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother who was always there for the people she loved. She never missed life's special moments - celebrations, performances, games, Folkers' reunions, back-to-school shopping, family dinners and most importantly the annual campout in Bloomfield. Her family brought her endless joy, and she found happiness in the everyday moments spent with them.
Winters in Green Valley, Arizona became a cherished part of her retirement visiting with those who travelled with her and especially with her sister-in-law Mary Lou (James) Schuler. There were always special treasures to open upon their return in the spring by the entire family. In addition to her annual Arizona trips, Mary was also fond of watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, doing the daily newspaper crossword and reading.
Mary is survived by her siblings: Bill Folkers, Tom (Lynn) Folkers, Tim (Diana) Folkers, Judy (Ken) Mishler, Margaret Rice, Ruth (Bill) McGuire; children: Matt Segerson, Meg Hanlin, Anna (Gabe) Brooks, and John (Autumn) Segerson; and her grandchildren: Miles, Owen, Katie, Camille and Madeleine. She was preceded in death by her husband (Michael), son (Tommy), son-in-law (Patrick) and her parents.
Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
