Mary Ellen Knapp, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully departed this life on November 7, 2025, in Noblesville, Indiana, at the age of 94. Born on October 29, 1931, in Franklin, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Harry and Willa Dean Schornick.
Mary Ellen graduated from Franklin High School and pursued her passion for beauty and artistry at Franklin Hair Academy, where she studied cosmetology. Her compassionate spirit led her to work at various restaurants and stores, where she brightened the days of many with her delightful presence.
In a beautiful union of love, Mary Ellen married her husband, Dale Knapp, on January 23, 1951. Together, they built a family that thrived on kindness and generosity. Mary Ellen’s nurturing nature was evident in her relationships with her children and grandchildren, and she deeply cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
A gentle woman with a heart full of love, Mary Ellen found joy in art, gardening, and her work in cosmetology. She had a passion for reaching out to senior citizens and also enjoyed selling Avon, which allowed her to connect with people in her community. Her kind and gentle demeanor left a lasting impact on those she encountered throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Knapp; her daughter, Carol E. Knapp Hinkle; and her parents, Harry and Willa Dean Schornick.
Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Steven H. Knapp, and her daughter, Debra A. Knapp (Thomas) Webber, along with six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She will be profoundly missed by her loved ones, who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Mary Ellen Knapp’s legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on through the generations she influenced and inspired.
