Mary H Bichaukas

July 10, 1942 — July 9, 2020

Mary Hannah (O'Grady) Bichaukas was born on July 10, 1942 and left us on July 9, 2020.

She married Edward “Ed” Bichaukas, Jr. on July 10, 1999, and he survives her.
She is survived by daughter, Karen Glasser Sharp; sons, Phil (Julie) Glasser, Michael Glasser and Greg Glasser; stepdaughters, Rose Bichaukas and Kathy (Dennis) McDonald; stepson, Eddie Bichaukas; sisters, Blanche (Paul) Ostrander and Elizabeth (Bob Byers) O’Grady.
Mary has seven grandchildren, Elliott Deane, Phillip (Victoria) Glasser, Hannah (Calvin) Johnson, Mary (Steven) Stunda, Nicholas Sharp, Megan (Aaron) Decker and Daniel McDonald; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Deane, Madelynn Denney, Lydia Johnson, and Ada Jane Glasser, and a great-granddaughter, Marcella Stunda, that is due in September; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary O’Grady; brother, James “Jimmy Mike” O’Grady; grandson, Christopher Deane; and great-granddaughter, Vivian Glasser, all of whom welcomed her home on Thursday.
A first generation American born to a citizen of the UK and a coal miner with Irish ancestry, Mary grew up in the small town (now a village) of Shadyside, OH, where she lived until moving to Columbus, OH with her four children, then on to Bucyrus, OH, to Indianapolis, IN and finally to Greenwood, IN. Mary retired from her job as a supervisor at the U.S. Postal Service and enjoyed frequent trips to Florida, including Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers Beach, Marco Island, St. George Island, Sanibel Island and Key West. She also took a cruise to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. Her favorite vacations included the annual summer trip to Kelleys Island on Lake Erie in Ohio, an extended family vacation to Gatlinburg, TN with her husband, sisters, brothers-in-law and daughter’s family, and trips to Arizona, including Phoenix, Sedona, and a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. She loved the wine dinners at Carrabba’s and most of all visiting with friends at the Greenwood American Legion Post 252 and serving as the Greenwood American Legion Women’s Auxiliary President. Mary was often known as “Mama Mary” to many, and her love for and kindness to others was well-known. She was a second mom to many of her children’s friends. She will be missed dearly by her husband, family, and friends. Especially Carol Rathz, one of her best friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary’s name to the Greenwood American Legion Post 252 Women’s Auxiliary, 334 US 31 South, Greenwood, IN 46142, where Mary served as President, to continue good works for our Veterans and the community.
