Mary Elizabeth George

Mary Elizabeth George, lovingly known as Mary, passed away peacefully from natural causes on September 5, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born on June 16, 1950, in Perry County, Kentucky, in Butterfly Holler, to Zola and Charles Deaton. A true coal miner’s daughter, Mary was raised with the strength, resilience, and humility that would carry her throughout her life.

Mary was a woman who endured more than her share of hardships and difficult chapters, yet somehow came through them all with her heart still soft. She was strong without ever becoming hardened, and she remained a loving, gentle, and happy soul who found joy in the simple things. Her kindness was not something she merely showed—it was simply who she was.

For more than 20 years, Mary worked as a nurse’s aide, dedicating much of her life to caring for and helping others. Taking care of people came naturally to her. She gave generously of herself, and there was always room in her heart for someone who needed a little extra love, comfort, or kindness.

Mary found happiness in many things throughout her life. She was an avid salt and pepper shaker enthusiast, enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, and bowling. She also loved riding motorcycles alongside her beloved late husband, Cecil George. Together, they shared memories and adventures that she carried with her throughout the years.

Mary eventually made her home in Danville, Indiana, where she spent her final days surrounded by family, including her son Solomon, his wife Savannah, and her grandson. She was deeply loved by her family and cherished by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, and her beloved husband, Cecil George. She leaves behind her four children, Solomon, Pamela, Charles, and Donald; her brothers Jerry and Tony; and the many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.

Mary lived a life that was anything but ordinary. She survived more accidents and unexpected turns than anyone could count, and her family often marveled at just how much she managed to overcome. In the end, after everything she had endured, she was blessed to leave this world peacefully from natural causes.

But Mary’s greatest legacy will never be measured by the years she lived or the hardships she survived. It will be found in the people she loved, the lives she touched, the people she cared for, and the kindness she gave so freely.

She was a strong woman with a tender heart. She proved that surviving difficult things does not have to take away your ability to love, laugh, or find happiness. Mary remained gentle. She remained giving. She remained loving.

She will be dearly missed, deeply loved, and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Rest peacefully, Mary. Your work here is done. You gave so much of yourself to others. May you finally have the peace and rest you so richly deserve.
