Mary Ann Nelson, 85, of Gold Canyon, AZ, died May 27, 2020, in Westfield, IN after a courageous battle with cancer. Her loving family was by her side.
Mary Ann was born July 7, 1934, in Bismarck, ND, to Hugo and Marion Henderson.
She attended East Leyden High School, in Franklin Park, IL, where she met her future husband Duane Nelson.
Mary Ann loved golfing as well as entertaining her large family and many friends. She was simply the best when it came to planning and hosting get togethers! Mary Ann was a special lady and will be dearly missed.
Mary Ann is survived by her son Kirk (Colleen) Nelson, Westfield, IN, her daughter Cindy (Lee) Shaw, Schaumburg,IL; grandchildren Erin Rodriguez, Indianapolis, IN and Kristi (Mark) Samarasinghe, Minneapolis, MN; Howie (Danielle) Shaw, Palatine, IL, Christopher (Lindsey) Shaw, Elk Grove Village, IL, Alexa Shaw and Cory Shaw at home; 8 great-grandchildren; her sister Theresa (Don) Garrett; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Hugo and Marion; her husband Duane; granddaughter Meghan Nelson; her brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Shirley Henderson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary Ann’s name to Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, 6640 S. Kings Ranch Road, Gold Canyon, AZ 85118.
Services will be held in the Chicago area as well as Gold Canyon, AZ, with internment in Stone Lake, WI, later this summer.
