Marilyn “Sue” Steele, 83, of Pinehurst, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose love for her family and quick wit will be remembered always.
Sue was born on July 25, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, to Carl and Luella Prather. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Steele, in Sidney, Ohio, and they were married on September 11, 1961. During Bob's service in the United States Army, Sue faithfully exchanged hundreds of letters with him, a testament to the enduring love and devotion they shared throughout their marriage.
A dedicated homemaker, Sue devoted her life to caring for her family. She loved playing card games and was known for her sharp sense of humor that could bring laughter to any gathering. One of her most treasured traditions was making homemade buckeyes during the holidays. She especially enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to make them, passing down a family tradition that will continue for generations.
Sue is survived by her children, Kimberly (Chris Spangle) Nelms of Humble, Texas; Timothy (Ann) Steele of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Thomas Steele of Spring, Texas. She also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren: Diane (Clint) Hudson of Tomball, Texas; Brigit (Blake) Nabours of Cypress, Texas; Cheyenne (Tyler) Robbins of Fort Worth, Texas; Juston (Monika) Steele of Newnan, Georgia; Sara (Parker) Riegel of Rockmart, Georgia; Jordan (Edgar) Steele of Douglasville, Georgia; Jesse Steele of Newnan, Georgia; Dylan (Becca) Steele of Cleveland, Texas; Garrett (Emilie Grecula) Vella of Pensacola, Florida; and Brenna (Thomas) Morgan of Dallas, Texas.
She was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren: Keely, Hunter, and Jase Hudson of Tomball, Texas; Landis, Waverly, and Silo Nabours of Cypress, Texas; Jacob, Kiera, and Joshua Steele of Newnan, Georgia; along with four additional great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Sue is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Judith Snodgrass and Shirley Steele, both of Sidney, Ohio, and her cousins, Andrea Saunders and Dorlene Dougherty.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” J. Steele; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Steele; her parents, Carl and Luella Prather; her brother, Robert Prather; and her brothers-in-law, Cecil Steele and George Snodgrass.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shelby Memory Gardens, 8347 State Route 705, Sidney, Ohio 45365.
Sue's legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply, the traditions she created, and the countless memories she leaves behind. Her humor, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be missed beyond measure and remembered with love always.
