Lynn Howard Smith was born on March 9, 1936, at home in Harlan, Indiana, to Lester and Catherine Smith. He passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026.

Lynn graduated from Harlan High School in 1954 and went on to earn an associates degree in mechanical engineering. He dedicated ten years of his career to International Harvester, where one of his proudest accomplishments was working on the IH Scout, including the hand-building of its first five models. Following this, he continued his professional journey as a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace industry, contributing passionately until the age of 78.

A true automotive enthusiast, Lynn found great joy in rebuilding and restoring cars. Among his many projects, his restored 1953 Buick Roadmaster stood out as his pride and joy, earning first prize in its category at the World of Wheels in 2015.

Lynn was a respected member of his community, having been a Mason, Shriner, and part of the Scottish Rite since 1959. He was also an active member of Gracehouse Church of God in Whiteland, Indiana, as well as belonging to the Historic Auto Club and the Central Indiana Chapter of the Buick Club.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Yvonne; his daughters, Linnett (Jim) Ball and Lisa Smith; his stepson, Eric (Michelle) Kiper; his brothers, Ron (Jean) and Gilbert (Sandy); and sister, Sandra Voilol. Lynn was preceded in death by his children, Julie Vollmuth and Jeffery Smith.

Lynn Howard Smith’s life was marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and community spirit. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
