Lois Elizabeth Rials Montgomery went home to be with the Lord due to complications following pancreatic cancer surgery.
Born in Detroit, Michigan (April 13, 1942), Lois chose to follow Jesus as her Savior at a young age, a decision that guided her throughout her life. She graduated from Berkley High School where she served as student president of Voice of Christian Youth. Lois carried a cheerful spirit and joyful attitude into every room she entered and every relationship she formed.
During her younger years, she enjoyed being outside and active. She loved a variety of sports and was a talented baseball player. She enjoyed surprising boys and men with her power throwing and hitting. While raising her daughters, everyone knew her to be the center of fun and laughter. Lois sang in choirs and was known for her beautiful harmonies. She was a tremendous encourager and cheerleader from her backyard, at her girls’ events, and in the grandkids’ bleacher seats. She was a clown, a rowdy rebel, and limit pusher. If everyone went horseback riding, she’d ride standing on her horse’s back. She could whistle loudly enough to be heard across a football field and throughout a neighborhood. She would use her whistle to draw a group’s attention, celebrate many victories, and call her family home.
In her 40s, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which significantly slowed her pace but never diminished her faith or her vibrant spirit.
Lois loved studying the Bible, opening her home to friends, organizing banquets and events for her church, and faithfully supporting her daughters and sons-in-law in their endeavors. She delighted in her grandchildren and faithfully attended their many activities. She was deeply involved in serving and volunteering in numerous capacities and treasured being part of her church family.
She was grateful for the opportunity to stay home and raise her family. During her working years, she served off and on as a secretary, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and vision care specialist.
Lois is survived by her loving daughters, Lynda (David) Pendleton and Robyn (Dwane) Anthony; her cherished grandchildren, Josh (Maddie) Pendleton, Jacob (Claire) Pendleton, Breanna (Stu) Scales, Krista Anthony, and Lela Anthony; and her three beloved great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Theodore Scales, and Olive Pendleton. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Mark (Denise) Bruner, Brian (Tania) Bruner, Anne (Walt) Griffard, and Matt (Kate) Bruner, as well as her brother-in-law, Wayne Bruner.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Monty R. Montgomery; her parents, Maurice and Alpha Rials; her sister, Beverly Bruner; and her niece Susan Bruner.
A funeral service will be held at Fishers Baptist Church 9587 E. 131st St. Fishers, IN, Monday, March 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. preceded by visitation at 9:00 a.m. Burial at Oaklawn Cemetery will follow the service.
Lois was a faithful supporter of Jews for Jesus, Wheeler Mission, Samaritan’s Purse, and other ministries that advanced the message of Jesus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her home church, Fishers Baptist Church.
