Lionel Jimenez, a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2026, at the age of 61 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on May 11, 1964, in Gary, Indiana to Federico and Isabel (Cano) Jimenez, Lionel was a ray of sunshine in the lives of those who knew him.
Lionel’s journey through life was marked by his dedication and passion for both his family and his career. He worked at FedEx since 2016, where he poured his energy into every task and built lasting relationships with his colleagues. Prior to that, he proudly graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf in 1984, a testament to his perseverance and determination.
An avid player of Euchre and Poker, Lionel often gathered with family and friends for spirited games that brought laughter and joy to everyone involved. He was a longtime active member of the Greater Indianapolis Deaf Club, where he made countless friends and contributed to a supportive community.
He was the proud father of three children, Elizabeth (Chris) Godbold, Mary Gravelle, and Robert Jimenez, all of Indianapolis. As a grandfather, he adored his six grandchildren, Adam, Aymee, Isabella, Tristan, Alison, and Asher, who brought boundless joy and light into his life.
Lionel is also survived by his loving mother, Isabel Jimenez of Hobart, IN, as well as his siblings: Fred (Toni) Jimenez of Hobart, IN, Maria Jimenez of Lake Station, IN, Carlos (Diana) Jimenez of Valparaiso, IN, Gloria (Leo) Muro of Schereville, IN, Esther (Juan) Roldan of Demotte, IN, Renee (Linda) Jimenez of Portage, IN, and Chris (America) Jimenez of Hobart, IN, along with several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
He joins in eternal rest his father, Federico Jimenez; his brother, Ruben Jimenez; and his sister, Christina Jimenez, whose spirits remain intertwined with his.
In remembrance of Lionel's incredible life, family and friends are invited to celebrate his memory. Visitation will take place on January 29, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Indiana Funeral Care - Greenwood Chapel, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 PM. A Graveside Service will follow at Acton Cemetery at 3:00 PM, where loved ones can say their final goodbyes.
Lionel’s warmth, spirit, and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His legacy of love will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
