Linda Conrad
Shimer
Jun 3, 1942 — Oct 26, 2026
Linda Conrad Shimer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, transitioned from this life on Oct 26, 2026, in her home in Fishers Indiana.
She was born June 3, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Harold Conrad and Bernice Waffler Conrad. She attended Otterbein University, where she met her future husband, Robert Anderson Shimer, in a humanities survey class in their final semester - just in the nick of time!
She taught school in Parma, Ohio, before joining Bob, who was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, with the Air Force. There She worked as a teacher in the newly-desegregated public schools, and had a daughter, Lora Leigh Shimer.
The young family returned to Ohio, living in Alliance, where Lora's brother, Kevin Patrick Shimer was born. Kevin sadly passed several weeks before Linda at age 55. They moved to Medina Ohio for several years and then relocated to Fishers, Indiana in the mid 80's.
Linda completed her Masters degree in education and worked as the assistant director if Christian education at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, and then as director of children's ministries at Fishers United Methodist Church. She passed her unwavering faith and love of learning to several generations.
Linda and Bob had many adventures during their 61 years of marriage, including many travels and her role assisting Bob in his storytelling, magic, and ventriloquism career. The family grew to include Kevin's wife Monica Edwards Shimer and son Nathan Owen Shimer, both of whom Linda adored. She relished the time she spent caring for Nate as he grew.
Linda had many dear friends and cared deeply about those in her circle, her community, and the wider world. She had a special knack for always seeing the good in people and was a quiet but strong, steady, loving presence in her community.
She is survived by husband Bob, daughter Lora, daughter in law Monica, grandson Nate, brothers Thomas and Steve Conrad, their wives Patricia and Kathleen, and a great many nieces, nephews, family and friends, who will all miss her warmth, optimism, and gentle, loving presence immensely.
Visitation will be held on November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Fishers United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. A repast will follow the service.
