Linda C. Fields

Linda C. Fields, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Linda was born Linda Carol Mitchell on February 17, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Jesse and Mattie Mitchell. She was the youngest of five daughters. Linda later married and took the Fields name, by which she was known throughout the later years of her life.

To her beloved son, however, she was always simply “Linda Carol.” It was the name he called her, a name that carried the love and special bond shared between a son and his mother.

Linda was a retired receptionist for the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Jefferson County. She was known for her caring heart, warm spirit, and deep love for her family.

Family was at the very heart of Linda’s life. She loved her grandchildren dearly and remained actively involved in their lives throughout her later years. Even when they lived far away, she kept up with them and always seemed to know what was happening in their lives.

As Linda’s health began to decline and she was no longer able to do many of the things she once enjoyed, her grandchildren became an incredible source of strength, joy, and companionship. Their love, visits, conversations, laughter, and presence helped keep her strong and active until the very end. They gave her something to look forward to and reminded her every day just how deeply she was loved.

Her beloved son, Jerrod Cox, was also by his mother’s side, caring for her with love and devotion through her final days. He remained there for her until the very end, making sure she was cared for, comforted, and surrounded by love in her home. Through it all, she was not alone. Her son was there, loving his Linda Carol until the very end.

While her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through those she loved most: her son, Jerrod Cox (Kim Cox); her grandchildren, DeAndre Payne, Damon Cox Jr., Alexandria Harris (Ryan Harris), and Ashley Ester (Derrell Ester); and her great-grandchildren, Rylie Harris, Ryan Harris Jr., Derrell Ester Jr., Jaxson Ester, and Rylynn Harris. She also leaves behind other beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her son, Damon Cox Sr.; and her dear sisters, Lois Camp and Janet “Jenny” Elizabeth Weathers.

Linda’s life was a testament to the love of family. She found joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, and the love she poured into them will continue through generations to come.

Though her family’s hearts are heavy with her passing, they can find comfort knowing that Linda was surrounded by love until her final days. Her grandchildren kept her smiling, her son cared for her faithfully, and her family made sure she never had to wonder how deeply she was loved.

To the world, she was Linda C. Fields. To her son, she was always Linda Carol. To her grandchildren, she was Nana. And to her family, she was and always will be love.
