Laura Jean Dean

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Hansen Dean at the age of 75 in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Born on February 9, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, Laura was the eldest child of Geraldine Ann Hansen and Roy Edgerton Hansen. She was a gentle, kind, and devoted woman who acted as a second mother to her younger siblings, three cousins, and her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Eric Dupont, whom she married on April 8th, 2026. Though their time together was short, they enjoyed three years of laughter, companionship, and traveling. She is also survived by her siblings, Nancy Edna Riordan, Micheal Bogart Hansen, and sister-in-law Susan Saffer Hansen; her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Jeff Frary, Allen Roy Frary, Nathan Edward Frary, Lydia Dennin, Sean Michael Hansen, Katherine Ann McGee, Martin McGee, Kyle David Riordan and April Riordan, and Zachary Roy Hansen; as well as her great-nephews and nieces, Zoe Frary, Damon Miles Frary, Camren Dennin, Noah Martin McGee, Eli Klemie McGee, Bentley James Kline, and Kade Mathew Riordan. In her life Laura found family as well, and in that she is also survived by Cheryl Dean Stinson, Sue Dean Good, Kyle Good, Jamie Good, Jamie Good, Jaden Good, Jordan Good, Kora Good, and Micayla Frame. She was preceded in death by her parents Geraldine Ann Hansen and Roy Edgerton Hansen, her sister Linda Helen Frary, her cousin Kathy Goings, and her nephew Teddy Goings.

Professionally, Laura was a highly prominent attorney and executive specializing in charitable gift planning, with a distinguished career that spanned four decades. She graduated magna cum laude with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and held a bachelor's degree from Ball State University. She maintained active state bar memberships in both Texas and Indiana. Most recently, she served as the Senior Director of Gift Design and Documentation at the University of Texas at Austin. Throughout her career, she was instrumental in securing planned gifts for the University of Texas at Austin, Ball State University, the University of Colorado, and several community foundations. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, she was inducted into the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners National Hall of Fame in 2018. The love of her profession was highlighted by her gratitude for service to her clients and community.

Laura loved life and people from all walks of life. She was a natural caregiver and nurtured everyone who came into her life. Laura loved traveling in her Toyota Solara convertible with the top down in her sunglasses and floppy hat. In her free time she enjoyed watching college football and basketball, and attending concerts with her family and loved ones. She was curious and valued reading, especially about American history, and visiting museums. In her spare time she researched her family's genealogy and was the historian and the matriarch of her family.

Laura will be laid to rest in North Oregon, Ohio, joining her mother, sister, cousin, and nephew in peace.
