Larry Allyn Tumey, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. He was born on September 18, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Earl and Malinda Tumey.
Larry's legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 45 years, Louisa A. Tumey; his children, Shannon (John) Sexson of Greenwood, Troy Tumey of Franklin, Charles (Kim) Hessman of Franklin, Holly (Steve) Stalets of Franklin, and Seth (Meghan) Tumey of Greenfield. He is survived by his brothers, Mike (Sherry) Tumey of Rockville and Jerry Tumey of Libby, Montana, along with 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him.
Preceding him in death is son, Shawn Tumey, brothers Dale Tumey and John Tumey, and sisters Linda Holz and Debbie Tumey.
Larry began his career as a pressman for the Indianapolis Star News right after high school, following in the footsteps of his father and brother. After retiring in 2005, he continued to work, taking on a role at Hendersons Drug Store in Franklin and later serving in security for the Laugles, where he humorously earned the nickname "Barney Fife."
An avid outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling, and he relished the opportunity to tease his grandkids, affectionately known as "Papa Jackass" or "Fast Grandpa." His love for collecting knives was evident, with a special fondness for those gifted to him by his children. Over the years, he cherished many moments spent on the family farm in Jackson County, particularly celebrating October during Fort Vallonia Days with close family and friends Al & Becky Peoples, Kevin & Debi Bultman, Glen & Linda Watson, Freddie and Frieda Russell.
A celebration of Larry's life will take place on February 7th at 1:30 PM at the "Barn" located at 7775 East 900 North, Indianapolis, IN 46259. The family warmly invites all who loved him to share stories, laughter, and memories, together as we honor his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
