Larry Jenkins

July 3, 1944 — July 10, 2023

Larry Lee Jenkins, 79, unexpectedly  passed on July 10, 2023.  Larry was born in Indianapolis, IN to Leamon Lee Jenkins and Betty Leila (Bryan) Jenkins.  His twin sister, Leila Jo Schmitt, also preceded him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda ( Bates) Jenkins, son Bryan ( Resa) Jenkins, daughter Kristine Stoker (Allen); grandchildren Josh (Stacy) Jenkins, Kayla (Stoker) Flight (Tim), Corey Stoker, Zachary (Danielle) Jenkins, seven great grandchildren, and brother Rick (Mary) Jenkins.

He graduated in 1962 from Howe High where he was best known for playing basketball and loving fast cars. On the weekends he loved to cruise the town where he met his eventual wife, Rhonda Kay Bates.  They were married for 58 years and were blessed with two children, Bryan Lee Jenkins and Kristine Kay.

Larry retired from Linkbelt FMC Rexnord after 42 years where he was a tool and die machinist.  Outside of work, he loved coaching both of his kids in softball and baseball at Bel-East Little League. He was a great teacher with the fundamentals in any sport helping you strive to be the best. He loved coaching so much that he continued to coach after his children were grown.  He was also involved with youth basketball for multiple years.

Larry always had a good eye for flashy items. On the weekends he participated with his son in the Indy Bass Club for 10 years. He always had a knack at winning the "biggest bass" award.  Once the warm weekends would disappear you could find Larry watching his favorite college basketball team, IU Basketball with Bobby Knight.  Larry was Bobby Knight's biggest fan.

Even with all the activities Larry did participate in , golf was his true love.  He spent almost every weekend out at the golf course with his friends or family.  Larry cared deeply about living life through activities such as golf, fishing, basketball, bowling and more.  But more important than the sports themselves, it was enjoying the friends and family that joined him.  Larry was blessed with 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He rarely ever missed a sporting event or rodeo.

He loved his family the most and always made sure to make it over for Sunday dinner after golf. He was a Godly man and could quote scripture on demand.  He will be loved and missed by so many.  He built a legacy and tradition through his family who will continue to carry his memory on.
