Larisene Ilona Douglas Weiner, of Christiansted, St. Croix, was born February 11, 1946, on the island of St. Kitts to Jenni Douglas and James Carter. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Carmel, IN.

Larisene grew up in Old Road, St. Kitts where she was educated through high school. As the oldest of three children, she was relied upon for the caretaking of her youngest brother and her visually impaired grandmother. In 1967, she moved to St. Thomas to join her mother, who had earlier relocated. During her time on St. Thomas, she met George J. Weiner of New York, whom she later married in December 1975. In 1977, George’s work took them to St. Croix where she remained anchored and built a fulfilling life until her move to Indiana. She committed over 35 years of her life working at Innovative Telephone, formerly VITELCO, until her retirement in 2016.

Many friends and loved ones knew her affectionately as “Lari.” She will certainly be remembered for her commitment to excellence, steadfast work ethic, and ultimate professionalism in the workplace. Outside of work, she had a love for plants and flowers, finding peace and joy as she spent countless hours nurturing and beautifying her yard. Tending to her garden was more than a pastime - it was a source of comfort and a way for her to connect with nature.

Her love for travel was exemplified by her time spent off island. She made it a point to visit friends and family throughout the US, Caribbean, and England. European tours were her guilty pleasure, and she loved the culture she encountered in old European cities. She took tremendous pride in dressing well, and it showed through her extensive shopping excursions! She maintained this standard in her everyday approach to living, because she simply adored beautiful things. She was a collector of sorts… She loved crystal, ceramic figurines, and hand painted china.

She had a definite love for food, and eating out at her favorite restaurants gave her great joy. Thus, she made it a point to dine out often. In fact, she has a list of restaurants on repeat and would have been considered a “foodie” by current standards. She, herself, was an excellent cook, and preparing meals brought her joy. Cooking was clearly a passion, as she continually tried new recipes, invested in the very best cookware, and trained her children to cook at an early age.

If you truly knew Larisene, you would know her deep love for music - especially Handel’s Messiah during the Christmas season and other classical pieces that helped process the days and weeks. Above all, Neil Diamond was her favorite, and his songs could be heard in her home on any day, except Sunday. Sundays were altogether sacred! Her stereo was dedicated to gospel music and hymns, which reflected her faith and connection to God and her church, Ebenezer Methodist Church in Christiansted, St. Croix where she was a faithful member for decades. Sister Larisene was a member of The Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) Women’s Auxiliary Group of the Methodist Church. She frequently and enthusiastically attended the Women Assemblies whether it was in Belize, Panama, or the Bahamas. She was also consistently present to represent women’s ministry and do the work of the women’s ministry in the local community.

She is survived by her children: Rohan Douglas, Gail Douglas, and Shaun Hart (Shants); her grandchildren Sable Williams, Jason Douglas, Ashley Montgomery, Skylar Stogsdill, Stephen Douglas, Danielle Brown, Jordan Douglas, Cyrus Hart, Simon Hart, and Shelby Hart; her brother Kirk Douglas (Elizabeth); numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Larisene Ilona Douglas Weiner departed this life on May 5, 2026, at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by George Weiner (husband), Jennie Douglas (mother), James Carter (father), and Clement Douglas (brother).

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, your kindness, and your support. They also want to graciously extend their thanks to the staff at Bickford of Carmel, the staff at Anchor of Hope Hospice, Pastor Eric L. Wiggins, and Minister Patti Holt.
