Nell Peterson

LaNell Mockabee Peterson was born March 15,1945, in Hickory Point, Tennessee to the late John Duncan and Lois Elizabeth Mockabee McGowan. 

She departed this life peacefully on December 22, 2023. 

LaNell enjoyed taking care of kids and being there for others. She had a big heart and it showed with all that she encountered.  LaNell also loved to throw parties and loved music.  Gospel, old school, blues.  LaNell loved it all.

LaNell married Fred Douglas Peterson in 1969.  He also preceeds her in death. 

In addition to her parents, LaNell was preceded in death by her stepfather Louis McGowan and two sisters Gladys Britt and Frances Barnwell. 

LaNell leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted God Daughter Michell’e Lewis of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bonus children: Liberty Dirig of Indianapolis, Indiana & Ernest Lewis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, one sister, Shirley Brewer of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; one brother Joe Douglas (Roni) McGowan of Indianapolis, Indiana; one aunt, Mattie Slappy of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; three nieces, Dineka McGowan and Vanessa Green of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Carol Wimberly of Clarksville, Tennessee; two nephews, Michael Britt of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Timothy (Yvette) Barnwell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one great-nephew: Kendrick Johnson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and God Children, Naomi Dirig and Keniah Carr of Indianapolis, Indiana; Walter Lewis and Melvina Lewis-Bond of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
