Kurt Martin Hibner, 73, a lifelong Hoosier, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on September 9, 2025. He was surrounded by his spouse and loving family. Kurt was born December 14th, 1951 at the former Coleman Hospital for Women in Indianapolis which is still a building on the IUPUI Campus. He was the middle son of Kermit Quentin Hibner MD and Gloria Jean (Rubush) Hibner.
Kurt lived in Fort Myers, Florida for 3 years with his mother and siblings where he graduated from North Fort Myer High School in 1970. He attended Edison Junior College on a scholarship for voice where he also performed opera for one year before returning to Indianapolis.
Kurt began working as an apartment maintenance technician and eventually graduated from Ivy Tech Community College for Residential and Commercial HVAC. He was a hard-working valued employee of Vasey Commercial Facility Solutions for 35 years until retiring in 2018.
Like his brothers Kermit and Kevin, Kurt enjoyed outdoor activities; whether it was fishing alone or with grandson Dallas, camping with family and friends or playing golf with his talented daughter Ashley. It always put a smile on his face. Kurt was also a fan of sports, especially college and professional basketball and football. He always cheered on Indiana University teams as well as the Pacers and Colts, both televised and in person when he could.
In 2019 once retired Kurt and the love of his life Laurie purchased an RV and like many Midwesterners escaped the harsh winters by traveling and visiting Florida, Texas, Arizona and California among other places. It was a great source of joy and well-earned relaxation for both.
Kurt was preceded in death by his oldest son Christopher Martin Hibner; his brothers Kermit Quentin Hibner II, Kevin William Hibner and both parents.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Laurie Ann (Wood) Hibner of Greenwood, daughter Ashley Jean Maire (Josh) of Greenwood, Colin Thomas Hibner of Indianapolis, sisters Tina Boyden of Mooresville and Denise Young (Bryan) of New River, AZ. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dallas Christopher Swearingen, Harlow Jean Maire, Amelia Quinn Maire plus many nieces and nephews. He is remembered as a great provider, loving husband and father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed.
Kurt requested cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a future date to be determined.
