Kevin Patrick Shimer passed from this life on Friday, September 11, 2026, after a brief illness. Kevin was born May 21, 1971, in Canton, Ohio, and was baptized at Beechwood United Methodist Church in Alliance, Ohio. He was a devoted son to Robert and Linda Conrad Shimer and a younger brother and best friend to his sister Lora Shimer. Kevin was a loving husband to his wife of 23 years, Monica (née Edwards) Shimer, and an adoring father to their 20-year-old son, Nathan Shimer.

A kind and generous soul, Kevin attracted many great friends into his life. He maintained friendships from Hamilton Southeastern High School, Ball State University, various employers, most recently Roche Diagnostics, where he worked for 19 years, and from his volunteer activities at Grace Care Center and the Fishers Arts Council. Kevin was an enthusiastic gamer and had a close circle of gaming buddies, “Mrs. Kraken”, with whom he met on an almost monthly basis for nearly 20 years. Kevin was a lover of the arts, frequently attending live music shows, plays, and movies. He was an artist himself, creating small sculptures, paintings, and graphic art printed on tee shirts and mugs. Kevin loved nature as well and enjoyed hiking, kayaking, stargazing, and the beach. Kevin lived an “inside out” life sharing the best of himself with all who knew him. He leaves a hole too big to fill, and he will be greatly missed.

Kevin is survived by his wife Monica, son Nathan, parents Robert and Linda, and sister Lora. Memorial services for Kevin will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Fishers United Methodist Church in Fishers, Indiana, with calling hours from 11 AM to 1 PM, and service beginning at 1 PM.

You can honor Kevin by playing music that makes your heart sing, creating art, planting a garden, walking in the forest, or looking up at the stars and wondering what's out there. Above all, by telling someone how much you love them.
