On Monday, April 26, 2026, Kevin Frederick Tim Smith passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. Kevin was born on January 10, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Phillip and Jean Smith.

Kevin was the oldest of 5 children: Craig, Andrew, Anne Bonini, and Brandt. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1974 and attended IUPUI, where he studied Liberal Arts, but his love of carpentry and the construction trade was his true calling.

Kevin began his handyman work before he finished high school. As a kid, he walked around the neighborhood, pulling his wagon full of tools, repairing things for neighbors. Kevin was a member of the Carpenters Union and is currently a member of IUPAT 1165. Kevin was a partner in a glazing business for several years, but the work kept him from his family, so he joined the union and made a career in Indianapolis. He also worked as a Project Manager for EMF and retired from Hoosier Glass in 2021.

While Kevin loved his work, his greatest love was his family. Kevin always dreamt of having a big family and was lucky enough to do it twice. Kevin was married to Paula White and had Sarah Smith and Patrick Smith. Later in his life, he married MaryStar Ely and had Angus Ely-Smith, Leticia “Cici” Miranda, and Jacob Whitfield.

Kevin also loved traveling. He spent time in São Paulo, Brazil, and made many trips to Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, Wrightsville Beach, California, and Mexico. He also spent time on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where he made lifelong friends and was lucky enough to take the trip of a lifetime with his daughter, Sarah, to the United Kingdom.

Kevin was a devout Catholic, most often attending All Saints Church. He had a strong yet quiet faith. This, however, was unlike his unapologetic democratic views, which he was happy to share with anyone when it came to voting blue, loving whomever you wanted, being the person you wanted, women’s rights, human rights, and supporting local unions.

Most of all, Kevin loved his family more than anything. He was a wonderful father to Sarah, Patrick, Angus, Cici, and Jacob, and a wonderful Grandfather to Paxton and Charleigh. Not to be forgotten, his third family was his beloved neighborhood and Ruckle Street. For many years, Kevin hosted Ruckus on Ruckle, a big celebration held on July 3, full of friends, food, and fireworks. Kevin was truly the Mayor of Ruckle Street. He loved his fellow neighbors and was always ready to help anyone in need or assist with a home improvement project.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Smith, and his first wife, Paula White. Kevin is survived by his mother, Jean Smith, brothers Craig, Andrew, and Brandt, and his sister, Anne. His partner, MaryStar and his children, Sarah, Patrick, Angus, Cici, and Jacob.
