Kenneth Errol DeHart, fondly known as Kenny, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Shelbyville, Indiana. Born on August 20, 1940, in Beech Grove, Indiana, Kenneth lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an enduring commitment to family and community.
Kenneth proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, demonstrating the discipline and honor that would characterize his personal and professional life. Following his military service, he established a distinguished career in asphalt construction with his last position as General Superintendent for Globe Asphalt Paving Co., Inc., where he was respected by colleagues and peers for his leadership and work ethic.
A man of many passions, Kenneth’s love for racing was evident in his years spent racing go-karts, an activity he cherished deeply. He also held a fondness for skiing, relishing the times spent on the slopes of Michigan with his family. Traveling was another of his joys, as he delighted in exploring new places and sharing those experiences with loved ones.
Above all, Kenneth loved his family and valued being surrounded by their company. He shared 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kay (Mullen) DeHart, a partnership that was a cornerstone of his life and source of immense pride. He was a devoted father to Scott (FayeLynn) DeHart, Kenn (Jessica) DeHart, Kyle (Raivin) DeHart, and Starla Chilson, and a cherished grandfather to Rocky DeHart, Sean Chilson, Steven Chilson, Kaleb DeHart, Alexandra DeHart, and Victoria DeHart and was close to his sister, Christina (Duane) Roush. His warm and generous spirit also touched many nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Cameron DeHart, mother Virginia (Coffman) DeHart, brothers Don DeHart and Jerry DeHart, and his daughter Tina DeHart.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his surviving family and all who knew him.Kenneth’s life was a testament to hard work, family devotion, and vibrant enthusiasm for life’s adventures. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all whose lives he touched.
