Katina Renae Mays, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and grandmother, passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 52. She was born on January 27, 1973, to her mother, Zelma Lou Mays, and father, Patrick Eugena Henry Sr., in Indianapolis, Indiana. Growing up in the inner city, Katina attended School 45 and Tech High School, where she began establishing the vibrant spirit that would define her life.
Katina was known for her golden smile, which could light up any room. She had an infectious laugh and a passion for music, evident in her fondness for turning up Uncle Vanice's tunes. Deeply loved by everyone who knew her, Katina brought warmth and joy to her family and friends, cherishing every moment spent with them. Her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, who will carry on her memory and spirit.
Katina’s legacy is one of love and strength. She is survived by her brother, Patrick Henry Jr.; sisters, Lamira Henry and Aisha Henry; and her wonderful stepmother, Tearwanda Henry. Katina also leaves behind her children: sons Terry Mays and Jerry Mays, and daughters Laqualo Beech and Shanna King. She was a proud grandmother to Trenton Mays, Shardonney Smith, Jerrica Mays, Jayda Mays, Shaima Mitchell, O’Miliyon Cleveland, Ta’nyela Cleveland, Cartier Hill, Anthony Lee Shelman III, Ariyah Lee’Rose Shelman, Anthony King, Taysyr King, Royel King, and Malik Taylor.
Katina was preceded in death by her grandmother, Zelma Mays; her father, Patrick Henry Sr.; her youngest son, Anthony Shelman Jr.; her beloved grandson, Terryoun Mays; and her late auntie, Brenda Turner. They will all be remembered and missed dearly.
Funeral services for Katina Renae Mays will be held on August 2, 2025, at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2728 N Sherman Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46218. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
