Kathryn A. Taylor

February 2, 1956 — February 20, 2024

Charleston, IL

Kathryn Taylor, a 20-year resident of Charleston, Illinois, passed away on February 20th, 2024, at the age of 68 at IU Hospital in Indianapolis after a short but hard battle with cancer. She was born on February 2, 1956, in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and her life’s journey took her to various and unexpected places, including Oregon, North Carolina, and Nuremberg, Germany.

Kathryn was a woman of deep faith, always wearing a smile that radiated warmth and kindness. Her heart overflowed with prayers for others, and she touched many lives through her unwavering love and compassion. As a loving and protective mother, she embraced her role with grace, and her devotion extended to her cherished grandchildren. Her passion for music was evident in her love for singing. Whether hymns in church or songs sang in the quiet of her home for only her and the animals to hear. Kathryn saw the beauty of creation in music and kept a song in her heart even in her darkest times.

Kathryn recently retired from her job of 13 years as a switchboard operator at Sarah Bush Lincoln, where her friendly voice greeted callers and connected them with care. Her work brought her immense satisfaction.

She was survived by her daughter, Kerri Gunnels; son-in-law, Dylan Gunnels, and two grandchildren, D'artagnan (Dart) and Delaney Gunnels.

She often remarked that she had lived enough for three lifetimes. Kathryn’s legacy will endure through the memories she created and the lives she touched.
Kathryn was a veteran in the Army and served as a weapons specialist in the 70's. In honor of her commitment to her country, she will be a laid to rest with military honors at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, IN.
