Katharine Sigmond Kontos, known to all as Katy, surviving wife of Richard Kontos, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on June 23, 2026. She was surrounded by her family on these last days with love, gratitude, faith, and celebration. She passed peacefully with her three devoted daughters at her side, into the hands of our Lord and Father.

Katy was born on October 2, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Dr. Harvey and Alice Sigmond. She met the true love of her life, Richard Kontos, and married him in 1979.

Katy was a beloved friend to many, She was a Kappa Alpha Theta at Butler University and married Robert Swallow (deceased). She was a member of Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church and previously Trinity Episcopal Church. She was an active member and leader in PEO sorority, and devoted hours of service to Mended Hearts at Riverview. Katy had a love of music and was active in the church choir for decades. Katy loved to travel and was blessed to do so all over the world.

Katy is survived by: her daughters, Stacey T. Sobczak, Julia S. Weaver (Ring), Mary S. Thomas; her stepdaughter, Leigh Kontos; her son-in-laws David Sobczak, Robert Thomas and David Ring; her 14 grandchildren: Ryan Todd, Scott Todd, Brittany Huntzinger, Samuel Sobczak, Katy Hiatt, Grace Thomas, Gabriel Thomas, Isabel Thomas, Lily Weaver (Eagle), Nate Weaver, Jackson DeCoursey, William Kontos, Russell Kontos, and Michael Kontos; her great grandchildren, Sophie and Ella Hiatt, Rylee and Aspen Weaver Eagle, Adison and Levi Chinn, Vivian and Ayla Huntzinger, and her brother David Sigmond.

Katy was preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Kontos, her brother Harvey Sigmond, her stepson Richard ‘Rick’ Kontos, her great grandson Jaxon Eagle.

A funeral is scheduled for Monday, July 6th at Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church, 444 South Harbour Dr. Noblesville, IN 46062. Visitors received at 1:00 PM with the service starting at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations  may be made in Katy's name to Heart and Soul Clinic, a free health clinic for individuals without health insurance or who are underinsured in Hamilton County and surrounding areas.
