Karen Kay Haram

March 19, 1942 — February 14, 2021

Karen Kay Haram (Keil), 78, went home to Jesus on February 14th, 2021 after battling complications related to COVID-19. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God has supported her throughout her life.

Karen was born to the late George Lewis Keil and Helen Francis Keil (Gould), March 19, 1942. She was the second of three girls in the family. Karen grew up in Pekin, Illinois and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church with her family. In high school she was one of twelve girls chosen to sing in the Melody Maids choral ensemble her junior and senior year. In third grade she met Camilla Hoffman who would end up being her life-long best friend and the two of them were nearly inseparable throughout their childhood.

She met the love of her life David Lynn Haram through mutual friends when she was a freshman at Pekin Community High School. She graduated from high school in 1960 and married David on October 8th, 1961. After marrying they moved to Indiana to start their married life in Whitestown, IN where they lived for three years. At which time Karen and Dave moved to Cedarville College for two years to further Dave’s education. While at Cedarville, they met Jerry and Judy Whitesell; who would become as close as family. After Cedarville, they moved back to Whitestown for 4 years and then moved to Lebanon, IN where they have lived ever since.

Karen and David went on to have 3 biological children, Tamra, John, and Andrew. In addition to the biological children they adopted Daniel and fostered 8 others. She worked at Families First as an administrative assistant, supporting counselors and their clients for 25 years while raising her children.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Karen also loved playing her baby grand piano as well as teaching piano lessons, spending time with her Red Hat friends, former co-workers and friends from her church, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Lebanon, IN. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

Karen joins her parents, and son, Daniel in Heaven. She is survived by her sisters, Helen Mooberry, and Barbara Dolby; children, Tamra (Rick), John (Jacquie), Andrew (Dana); grandchildren, Austin, Abigail, Michael, Sophia (Garrett), Thomas, Gabriel, Joshua and Aliyah.

Karen will be buried at Lincoln Memory Gardens following the funeral on Saturday, February 20th. The viewing will be at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Lebanon, IN at 10:00 am-11:45 am and the funeral will begin at 11:45 am Pastor Mervin McNair will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Boone County Cancer Society www.boonecountycancersociety.org.
