Judith Jane (Replogle) Rayl

Judith Jane Rayl, lovingly known as Judy, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2025, in Carmel, Indiana. Born on April 13, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, Judy lived a life dedicated to her family and passions that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Judy was a proud graduate of Decatur Central High School, where she played the clarinet in the band and took part in a jazz ensemble, fostering a lifelong love of music that she would pass on to her daughter. She furthered her education at Indiana Business College, preparing her for a fulfilling career in secretarial work and office administration, ultimately retiring from Functional Devices in Russiaville, Indiana, where she served as Office Manager and Buyer. Her dedication and work ethic reflected her strong belief in striving to do the right things in life. After she retired, she and her husband moved to a mini-farm in north-central Indiana where she was able to indulge her love of gardening, as well as raising chickens and cows, and spending time with her dogs Babe, Tippy, and Hoss.

As a person, Judy was known for her quiet demeanor and sweet disposition. She preferred the company of her family and close friends over the spotlight, finding joy in simple moments spent with her beloved dogs or engaged in reading or crafting. Throughout her life, she cultivated a deep appreciation for various crafts, proudly showcasing her skills through the beautifully crafted quilts, cross-stitch artwork, and handmade jewelry she designed from stones she polished herself. Her creativity extended to music, where she enjoyed playing several instruments, including the piano, guitar, and flute.

Judy's commitment to her family was steadfast. She cherished the time spent with her loved ones, always aiming to balance her priorities. Her daughter, Jane (Osborn) Cook of Indianapolis, was a source of immense pride for Judy, and she often celebrated Jane's accomplishments as reflections of her parenting. Judy is also remembered by her grandson, Lucas M. Parson of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister, Marjorie E. Haverstick; her nephew, David Haverstick, along with his daughters, Kate and Ella; and her niece, Ann Haverstick, and her daughter, Dilyn, all of Washington, and Judy's best friend, Cheryl Olson of Indianapolis.

Judy’s upbringing was shaped by her faith as she was a member of the Valley Mills Friends Church and the West Newton Friends Church in her youth, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. These friendships and her beliefs influenced her character, and she maintained those fundamental values throughout her life.

Despite her modest nature, Judy made a significant impact on those around her. She left a legacy of love, kindness, and artistry that will be cherished by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Rayl, and her parents, Edward and (Laura) Alice (Catey) Replogle, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Judy's quiet strength and unwavering love for her family will forever be celebrated in the memories of her loved ones. She will be missed dearly but remembered with great affection.
