Juanita Ruth Gillenwater, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born on May 22, 1936, and lived a life defined by strength, determination, love, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
Juanita was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. As a young girl, she became deaf following an illness, but she never allowed that challenge to define her or limit what she could accomplish. Through hard work, resilience, and determination, she provided for her family and showed everyone around her what true strength looked like. She faced life’s obstacles with courage and grace, never allowing anything to stand in the way of what she needed or wanted to do.
Family was the center of Juanita’s world. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members, and friends. Her presence could light up a room, and she had a special way of making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and important. Her warmth, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her. The world feels a little less bright without her in it, but her love and legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jennings B. Gillenwater; her sons, David and Jimmy; and her grandson, Jacob.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Tina, Junebug, Charlene, Jennifer, and Sue; her sister, Julie Bryant Gillenwater; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
In accordance with Juanita’s wishes, no formal services will be held at this time.
Though she may be gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts. Her love, strength, and spirit will remain with her family always.
