Joseph Samuel Zahnd

Joseph Samuel Zahnd, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and truly unforgettable man, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at the age of 59.

There are some people who walk through this life and leave footprints behind. Then there are people like Joe. People who leave pieces of themselves in everyone they meet. His absence has created a hole in the hearts of his family and friends that words simply cannot begin to describe.

Joe was the beloved husband of Jennifer Zahnd, with whom he shared 34 years of love, laughter, and memories. They built a beautiful life together. He loved his wife more than life itself. Their marriage was a testament to the kind of love that grows deeper with every passing year, through every season of life.

He was the devoted father of Ashley Conner (Joshua Parson), Samantha Zahnd (Bryce Armstrong), and Brittany Pyke. Being a father was one of the greatest honors of his life. He loved his daughters fiercely and was proud to be their dad.

But if there was one title Joe wore with an especially proud heart, it was Grandpa. He was the proudest grandpa to Mackenzi Fergason, Saylor Armstrong, and Sophia Armstrong. His grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy. He cherished every moment with them and loved them with a tenderness that could light up an entire room. He was so proud of the legacy he had created.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Zahnd; his daughters, Ashley Conner (Joshua Parson), Samantha Zahnd (Bryce Armstrong), and Brittany Pyke; his grandchildren, Mackenzi Fergason, Saylor Armstrong, and Sophia Armstrong; his mother-in-law, Linda Pyke; and several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Zahnd; his mother, Carolyn Radar; his beloved brother, Johnny Zahnd; and his father-in-law, Larry Pyke.

Joe never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel like they had known him forever. He loved people genuinely, freely, and without reservation. Everyone who met him seemed to love him right back. He made friends everywhere he went.

Joe drove a cab, where his naturally outgoing personality allowed him to meet people from all walks of life. He had a gift for conversation, a good story, and making even a stranger feel welcome.

He enjoyed Harleys, classic cars, playing his guitar, and loved being around the people who mattered most to him. He was the kind of man who somehow always knew the right thing to say. He could fix nearly anything that was broken. He was loving. He was loyal. He was one of a kind.

Joe was the kind of man whose advice stayed with you. The kind of man you could call when something went wrong. The kind of man who would show up.

And now, for the people who loved him most, the hardest part is learning how to live in a world that no longer has him physically in it.

Joe made the world a better place simply by being part of it. His greatest legacy isn’t something that can be measured or put into words. It lives on in his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, his family, and every person whose life he touched.

His love will continue through them.

Although our hearts are shattered by losing him, we find comfort in knowing that the love he gave us doesn’t end here. It will live on in every story we tell about him.

Joe spent his life reminding us to love one another.

So in his honor….

We will love harder.
We will forgive more.
We will tell the stories.
We will keep his memory alive.

And we will never stop being proud that we were lucky enough to call him ours.

Joseph Samuel Zahnd was the greatest man we will ever know.

There simply haven’t been enough words created to describe how deeply he will be missed, how profoundly he was loved, or how much his life meant to all of us.
