It is with heavy hearts to announce that Joseph Spencer Wright Jr., age 78, of Indianapolis, has passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026. Born in Lewes, Delaware on March 7, 1948 to Joseph Spencer Wright Sr. and Sarah Jane L Robertson,
He is survived by his wife, Marieann Helen Wright; children,Theresa Milligan, Terra (Rodney) Anthony, Joseph Wright III, and Heather (Anthony) Thieme; 3 grandchildren; and his siblings: Alan Wright, Mathew Wright, Jane Bartlett, Maria Thoma; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Sarah; and his brother, David Wright.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Army from January 1970 - March 1989. He was honorably discharged at the age of 37, as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) with a specification towards equipment, maintenance, and logistic operations.
He had a lifetime love for the newest and coolest technology. He was always eager to get his hands on gadgets & gizmos, computers, games, movies, and everything sci-fi related. He treasured his vehicles and always chose the fun and high tech options. In his early days he, with the help of his eldest children and wife, cared for their property, farmed animals, kept bees, and gardened the land.
As time and circumstances changed he settled into retirement and maintained a slower life in modern technology and media. Some of the memories he treasured most were those shared with his siblings. He shared stories and moments from their lives together that remained important to him throughout his life. He was thankful for his wife and the family they grew together. He loved his family and was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. His parting words “Live long and Prosper.”
A graveside service with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E 38th St, Marion, IN 46953.
