Joseph A. Murrell

Joseph A. Murrell, 65, of Indianapolis, IN. passed away on Sunday morning, June 28, 2026. Joe was born on May 13, 1961, to Jerry Murrell and Marilyn Chillo and grew up in Carmel, IN.

Joe graduated from the IU school of business before moving to South Bend in 1988 to pursue working at Keebler. Afterward he moved back to Indianapolis in 1993 and worked the rest of his life as a self-employed house Painter and carpenter.

Joe's favorite hobbies included karaoke, photography, and gardening. He loved to cook, being very skilled at charcoal grilling. He would also love eating out at restaurants and fine dining establishments, sometimes trying to remake what he had eaten there at home. Joe loved people and never met a stranger, being very social at karaoke.

Having seen addiction in his own family he tried his best to help others struggling with addiction to become better than they were before. In last year and a half of his life, he spent his resources helping his only son Reece remodeling the house his son purchased.

Joe is survived by his son Reece Murrell; brothers and sister Andy Murrell, Brian Murrell, John Murrell, and Jerilyn Watkins; nieces and nephews Josh Still, Amie Robb, Krista Watkins, Taylor Watkins, Miranda Aippersbach, Lucinda Quintal, Andreas Murrell, Brad Murrell, Kathleen Niederhauser, Amanda Andrews, and Jacob Sturges.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry Murrell and Marilyn Chillo; sister Kim Murrell.

Visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with Service to follow at 1:00 pm. After funeral there will be a celebration of life at Joe's house @ 2604 E 72nd st, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
