Jose "Joe" Salomon Fernandez, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. He was born on September 19, 1947, in Trinidad, Honduras, to the late Salomon Fernandez and Maria Digna Lopez Paredes.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Ann (Roberts) Fernandez; his daughter, Josie Pope; his stepchildren, Walter Wilkins and Michelle Higginbotham; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Joe was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors, especially tending to his yard and garden, which brought him both peace and pride. He had a deep appreciation for nature, classic cars, action movies, good food, and the company of others. One of his greatest joys was traveling and sharing new adventures with his wife, including their time spent supporting military training efforts at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
Throughout his life, Joe was a dedicated and hardworking man. He worked at Lockheed Martin, ran his own handyman business, and later served in maintenance at Beech Grove Schools. In every role, he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others.
After experiencing a hemorrhagic stroke in early May, Joe spent his final weeks surrounded by love and care.
Joe’s warmth, humor, and easygoing nature left a lasting impact on all who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For more information, please contact his daughter Josie at (317) 918-7353.
