John D. Sandlin Sr.

John D Sandlin, Sr., 94, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026. John was born February 21, 1932 in Manchester, Kentucky to Mary Jones. His mother passed away when he was 9, John was raised by his grandparents Dave and Ellen Jones

John and Etta moved to Indiana in 1953. He worked 2-3 jobs to raise 9 children and retired from United Technologies in 1994.

John loved Little Debbie oatmeal pies, black coffee, scratching lottery ticket (scratchers) and his happy place the casino. He loved watching his game shows, football, and baseball. Especially the White Sox

John is survived by his children, Oscar (Linda), Nellie (Dave) McLerran, Loreena Hegenbart, Bill (Jan), Howard (Susan), Judy (Larry) Ackley, Rosetta, Sybil (daughter in law) and Tim (Kristy), 25 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren and Many family members in Kentucky

He was loved by so many, his children, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins and he loved them all, especially the babies.

He preceded in death by his wife, Etta, son , John Jr, granddaughter Holli, great grandson William, and son in law Patrick Noel Hegenbart. His mother Mary and grandparents.
