John Joseph Doyle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026.

John was born on November 24, 1945, in Beaver, Pennsylvania, to William R. Doyle and Mary L. Doyle. He later moved to Minnesota, where he graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine in 1963.

John shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Laura Kathleen Doyle (Smith). Together they built a family centered on love, laughter, and unwavering support.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Laura; his daughters, Marie (Jay) Schwein and Michelle (Jim) Hamric; his cherished grandchildren, Grant and Kate Schwein, and Christopher and Isabelle Hamric; and his great-granddaughter, Ada.

From the age of five, John knew exactly what he wanted to do in life — drive a bus. He proudly fulfilled that dream through a 20-year career with Greyhound Bus Lines, where he enjoyed meeting people and traveling the open road. Before retirement, he continued his love of driving by delivering books for Scholastic Books.

John was a devoted family man who rarely missed a sporting event involving his daughters. He also enjoyed playing softball, spending many evenings and weekends on the ball field and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Later in life, he took great pride in watching his grandsons play hockey. A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he rarely missed the chance to “cheer” them on. He and Laura also attended as many of their granddaughters’ events as possible, always showing up with love and encouragement.

Among John’s greatest joys were his beloved Basset/Beagles, Fawnie and Gracie, who found their forever home with him and Laura in 2021. They brought companionship, comfort, and countless smiles to his days.

John will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his unwavering commitment to family and friends. Deeply loyal to those he cared about and was always ready to help when needed. He leaves behind many good memories, stories, and laughs that will be shared for years to come.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cieciura, Jana Swanson, NP, Dr. Winters, and Dr. Santiago for their tremendous care, compassion, and support.

An informal celebration of John’s life will be held this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Guardian Angels Basset Rescue in John’s memory. https://bassetrescue.org/
