It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Steven Cole, who passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on August 7th, 1937, in Peoria Illinois. He married Anne Marie Carr in 1961, and they were happily married for 63 years.
Steven was a beloved husband, father and friend, who’s generous heart touched the lives of many who knew him. Throughout his life he showed an unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was a source of strength, kindness and wisdom, always ready with a helping hand or a word of advice.
Steve had many interests and enjoyed the opera, poetry, nature, and music of all kinds. He wrote his own poetry and was always happy to share his poems with his loved ones.
Steve joined the U.S. Navy where he reached the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. His career in law was a testament to his hard work, integrity and dedication. He was a sole practitioner in Elmhurst Illinois for 40 years. Along with his professional pursuits he also served as a Deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Joliet Illinois for years. If you asked Steve, he would tell you that studying to be a Deacon was more challenging than studying for the Bar.
Steve is survived by his beautiful wife Anne; his daughters Colleen Glander (Skip) and Meghan Anderson (Gerry); grandchildren Austin Glander (Katie), Sarah Glander, Jack Glander (Abby), Kirsten Anderson, Jenny Biechele-Speziale (John), Faith Anderson; great grandson Grayson Glander; his siblings Tom Cole, and Marilyn Cole-Kennedy (Brian).
A service in memory of Steve’s life will take place on Friday November 29th 2024 at Our Lady of Greenwood, 335 South Meridian St. Greenwood IN 46143. The visitation at the church will take place from 10:30am to 12pm followed by a funeral Mass.
