John Kennedy Callahan, 62, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was born May 29, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Aline (Temple) and Charlie Callahan. He passed away on October 7, 2026.

John was preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers, Roger Talley and Charlie Jr.

John graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1983. In 1987, he joined the United States Army, serving with courage and steadfast commitment in Operation Desert Storm, with additional assignments in Germany and Kansas. He was honorably discharged in 1991. After his active-duty service ended, he continued to serve his country in the Indiana National Guard for 12 years—an enduring reflection of his brave spirit and deep sense of duty.

A hard-working man who provided faithfully for those he loved, John worked various jobs as a cook before graduating from Lincoln Tech in 2002 with an Associate’s Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He continued to work and care for his family over many years, with his final employment being with Dick’s Sporting Goods.

In September of 2000, John married Michelle Williams, and to that union came his two beloved daughters, Layla and Mya Callahan, who were a constant source of pride and joy in his life.

John accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated musician and member of the male chorus. His love for music ran deep and wide—gospel, R&B, and Rock & Roll—carrying his spirit into the lives of many and reflecting the warmth of a beloved presence within his church family and beyond.

In addition to his beloved wife and children, John leaves behind two sisters, Charlie Mae Newman and Mildred Callahan; one brother, Scott Callahan (Cheliece); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
