JoAnn Gates, 74, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 at her home with family by her side.
She was born on Sunday, September 29, 1946 to the late Charles and Audrey (Ingram) Murray in Laurel County, Kentucky.
She married her husband of 42 years, Robert C. “Bob” Gates on July 1, 1978 and between them they have 5 children.
JoAnn was a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church in Greenwood, Indiana for over 40 years. She was a collector of Longaberger baskets for many years and would sometimes sell a few to get another one she really wanted. She loved cooking, especially for family gatherings. She enjoyed being with her family and doted on her grandchildren quite a bit. Jo and Bob took many Corvette trips over the years to places such as Gettysburg, Gatlinburg, and Branson with old friend and new friends made along the way.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Robert Gates; children, Crystal Wampler and her husband Greg, Dan Gregory and his wife Tina, Jonathan Gates, Brent Gates and his wife Sylvia, Lisa Kluesener; grandchildren, Gage Gregory, Marissa Gregory, Anthony “Tony” Wampler, Jordan Gates, Stephanie Smith, Nathan Kluesener, Steven Kluesener; great granddaughter, Shayleigh Wampler; brother, Douglas Murray; and sisters, Barbara Hall, Lois Hargis, Wilma Hubbard, Janice Boyd.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Audrey Murray; brother, Charles Murray, sister, Judy Cunigan; and grandson, Greg Wampler II.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Smith Valley Baptist Church, Greenwood, Indiana.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Officiating will be Pastor Lori Ferguson.
Burial will immediately follow at Youngs Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Indiana.
