Joan Slade

Joan Tossell Slade, "Joanie", 90, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023, in Carmel, IN. She was born on August 3, 1932, in Detroit, MI. Joanie's smile was contagious and she loved her family deeply. She was a compassionate, engaging, and talented woman who was admired by all who knew her.

Joanie graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, IN, and later attended Indiana University, School of Music. She performed around the country singing throughout college and afterwards. She married the love of her life, Bob, to whom she was married for 67 years. They raised four children, traveled the world, and enjoyed many activities together including spending their winters in Sarasota, FL.

Joanie was a lifetime member of the Irvington Music Club and attended Fourth Church of Christ Scientist. She was a long-time member of Brendonwood Country Club, where she served as Social Chairman, President of the Ladies Golf Group and participated in Ladies Garden Club and multiple bridge groups. Having had three daughters, Joanie was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years!

She is survived by her children: Deborah Slade Carter (Greg), William H. Slade (Laurel), Barbara Slade Kincannon (Tom), and Marta Slade Stanbrough (Jim). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jenna and Blake Carter; Chris, Cory, and Collin Slade; Carly, Jack, and Scott Kincannon; Jake, John, and Megan Stanbrough. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Jane Tossell Smith, and eight great grandchildren. Joanie was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Slade, "Bob", and her parents, Marta and Harold Tossell.

The family is planning a private memorial service and celebration of her life.
