Jessie Brooks Dawkins

Jessie Brooks Dawkins was born on August 14, 1930, in Oakland, Louisiana to Ollie Dawkins and Ocie Moore. He was one of ten children, the last and youngest of the family. He attended Union Parish High School in Farmerville, Louisiana.

He entered the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He united in marriage to Azzie Lee Finley, from the union they had three daughters and one son.

Jessie Dawkins remarried in 1986 to Emma Berry, in the union one daughter was born. Jessie retired in 1995 from United Technologies Carrier.

Jessie loved his Blues and spending time with friends at White Castle and McDonalds. His pastime was working on his houses, yard work, and gardening. Just an outdoor man.

Jessie Brooks Dawkins departed this life on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the age of 94 years old. His parents and ten siblings preceded him in death and a daughter, Barbara Powell.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Emma Dawkins; children, Betty J. Mitchell, Alice Faye (William) Rich, Jessie B. (Philis) Dawkins, Jr., and Teilla D. Dawkins; grandchildren, Rebecca “Becky” Wilson, Brandie Mitchell, Willie, (Justin) Powell, Ashley Powell, Dariel Dawkins, Demetrious Rich, David Rich, LaStar Jones, Sherlunda Dawkins, MeOsha Drew, Jaida Baker, Janiya Hunt, Chloe Kerr, Jaelynn Dawkins, and Parker McBrady. A host of nieces and nephews; including nieces, Faustine (Art) Harris, Johnette Barnes, Clarida Rivers; and nephews, Robert Dawkins, John Dawkins, Herbert Dawkins, Travis Dawkins, and other countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends are also left to mourn Jessie’s passing

Friends and family are welcome to gather for a public visitation from 4:00pm – 6:00pm in celebration of Jessie’s life on Friday, July 25, at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250. Funeral service to follow visitation at 6:00pm at the funeral home.
