Jerrold “Jerry” Lyman, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 3, 2026, at the age of 61. He was born on July 2, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Mary Louise Slagle Lyman.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Louise Slagle Lyman, and his brother, James “Jimmy” Lyman.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Lyman; his children, Katie (Jeremy Stafford) Lyman, Jill Lyman, Tim (Anni) Doan, Christopher (Penny) Doan, Katie (Michael) Best, and Jesse (Brittany) Goss; and his 14 grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his nephews, Chris and TJ Hawn; his brother, Joseph (Julie) Lyman; his sister, Jennifer (Steve) Olney; his sister-in-law, Beth Lyman; and his best friend, Noel Hawn. He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Xander and Chloe.
Jerry attended Franklin Central High School and was born and raised in the car business. He carried on his family’s passion for the industry, eventually owning and operating his family business, Indiana Auto Credit Inc.
While Jerry was proud of his work, his greatest love was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, Grampy, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved spending time on his property, camping, riding four-wheelers, working on and enjoying Jeeps, and especially sharing adventures and laughter with the people he loved.
Jerry had a personality that was impossible to forget. He was a big prankster with a great sense of humor, incredibly generous, and truly never knew a stranger. He had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome and cared for. If someone was in need, Jerry was the kind of person who would do whatever he could to help. He gave freely of his time, his resources, and his heart.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his larger-than-life personality, his generosity, his love of adventure, and, above all, the love he had for his family. His grandchildren, children, wife, extended family, friends, and even his beloved dogs were at the center of his world.
Jerry leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, stories, pranks, adventures, and a legacy of kindness that will live on through all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
