Jeffrey Curtis Herr

February 28, 1952 — March 7, 2024

Indianapolis

Dr. Jeffrey "Jeff" Curtis Herr, 72, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away in his sleep on March 7, 2024. He was born on February 28, 1952, in Lancaster, PA, to Paul R. and Thelma Mae (Alexander) Herr.

Jeff grew up in East Petersburg, PA, and graduated from Hempfield High School where he excelled in academics and sports before attending North Carolina State University for undergraduate studies where he received, with honors, a BS in Animal Science, played baseball for the Wolfpack and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.  Jeff furthered his studies at The University of Tennessee (Knoxville) where he received a Master's Degree in Animal Physiology.  He later obtained a Registered Nurse (RN) license which enabled him to become and work as a Certified Registered Nurse Anethesist (CRNA) for many years.

There was not an animal, large or small, that Jeff did not love, and, after years of providing care to humans, a life-long dream became a reality when he was admitted to Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated in 1995 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and was a member of the Sigma Chapter of Phi Zeta, KSU’s honor society of veterinary medicine.  He practiced as a Vet for more than two decades before retiring in 2018.

Jeff loved watching his children compete in sports, caring for the dozens of pets he adopted over the course of his life, the beach, snorkeling, scuba diving, skiing, golfing, and attending sporting events. He was also active at his church, acting as a greeter and known for sharing an animal fact to his fellow greeters each Sunday.

Jeff is survived by his daughter Cassie C. Jackson (Michael), his son J. Brock Herr (Kelly) of Carmel, IN, his grandchildren Marley, Ryan & Hendrix Jackson and Miles Herr, his brother Tom Herr (Kim) Lancaster, PA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents.
