This love for music continued to flourish as she attended The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and she was honored to sing with the esteemed Louisville Opera Company.

Janice is survived by her brother, Robert "Bob" Gates, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who held her dear. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Rena Gates, her brother Albert Gates, and her half-sisters Wilma Merry and Peggy Carnes.
